Answer

As detailed in my answer to AQO 8158 11/15, I have allocated over £2 million from the Carrier Bag Levy Fund for the environment giving some relief to environmental groups and programmes. Of this £2 million, £0.5m will be spent on Listed Building grant schemes. My focus has been on supporting existing restoration and maintenance projects, in buildings that provide facilities for community access and use, including churches.

The following schemes are being supported:

Former Derry Cathedral Primary School at Derry’s walls;

Former Holy Cross Boys School on the Crumlin Road in Belfast;

Church of the Holy Undivided Trinity in Waringstown;

Sacred Heart Church, Omagh;

Works to conserve the Union Theological College in Belfast;

Essential repair and maintenance of St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry.
