Answer
Independent advocacy providers are responsible for the delivery of the advocacy services, under the terms of agreed contracts in place with either the Health and Social Care Board or Trusts. They work in specific services and localities, engaging with patients, service users and carers in both acute and community settings, including, where necessary, outpatient facilities for people who have mental health issues or learning disabilities.
The RQIA published the report of its review of advocacy services on 14 January 2016. I have accepted the findings, including the need for improvements to service provision. My Department is overseeing the development of an action plan to implement the report’s recommendations.
