Answer

The curriculum is not designed to prescribe detailed lists of compulsory subject content; rather it allows schools appropriate autonomy to meet the needs of their pupils. This flexibility encourages more innovative and customised approaches to ensuring our young people are both safe and well-informed.

Within the curriculum there are opportunities to cover first aid training, including CPR skills, through ‘Personal Development and Mutual Understanding’ in primary school and ‘Learning for Life and Work’ in post-primary school. This could be supported further through concurrent study in subjects such as Citizenship Education, Physical Education and Science.
