Answer
In September 2021 my Department introduced reforms to Northern Ireland’s youth training system. The new NI Traineeship replaced the Level 2 Training for Success programme and, in future, it will be expanded to encompass a range of full-time Level 2 mainstream vocational education programmes.
The Traineeship programme is being delivered exclusively by the Further Education Colleges throughout Northern Ireland and being introduced on a phased basis. In September 2021 North West Regional College offered approximately 85 Traineeship places across a number of occupational areas that included Engineering, Carpentry and Joinery, Motor Vehicle and Retail.
From September 2022, the range of Traineeships available will be expanded, increasing the number of places available across NI as well as in NWRC.
