Answer
My officials are currently working in partnership with Tourism NI to develop a Strategic Framework for Tourism in Northern Ireland. This is at a very early stage, however I expect there will be focus on creating a thriving tourism ecosystem that enriches Northern Ireland, its people and its guests.
The decision to bring The Open Championship back to Royal Portrush is an example of our reputation for being able to stage world-class events. It is important that we maximise the benefits of such opportunities and, as we develop the Strategic Framework, I look forward to hearing stakeholders’ views on how we can best deliver high quality, memorable and authentic experiences that bring tangible benefits to local businesses and communities.
In terms of the 2025 Open specifically, the collective ambition of the R&A, Royal Portrush Golf Club, the NI Executive, Tourism NI and key delivery partners, such as the Causeway Coast and Glens Council, is to make the 153rd Open Championship even better than the 148th.
Tourism NI will continue to develop and support new and existing experiences along the North Coast which will help to support the overall tourism offer in the led up to the event in the next four years and during event week itself.
