Answer
Policy on electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure is the responsibility of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).
My Department has offered the use of Building Regulations as a potential legislative mechanism to assist DfI in implementing a requirement for the provision of EV charging point infrastructure alongside new buildings, and when major renovation of buildings with associated car parking occurs, should that department decide to progress in this way. I recently noted the importance of supporting infrastructure for zero emission vehicles and reminded the Minister for Infrastructure that my Department awaits direction on this matter.
In the meantime, my officials maintain a watching brief for further developments in building regulations in other regions.
