Answer
The annual amount spent in the 2020/ 2021 financial year by my Department on electricity, gas, oil and other energy from April 2020 to March 2021 is shown in the table below:
| 2020-21 Financial Year | |
| Electricity | £1,681,965 |
| Oil | £96,247 |
| Gas | £1,093,037 |
| Bulk Propane Gas | £2,888 |
| Vehicle & equipment fuel | £12,182 |
| Total | £2,886,319 |
Based on actual costs for the first 3 quarters of the 2021/2022 financial year and an estimate calculated for the fourth quarter, the predicted increase, in real terms, given rising energy costs for 2021/2022 for my Department is shown in the table below:
| 2021-22 Financial Year Predicted increase in costs* | |
| Electricity | £320,612 |
| Oil | £24,674 |
| Gas | £1,132,631 |
| Bulk Propane Gas | £196 |
| Vehicle & equipment fuel | £1,782 |
| Predicted Increase Total | £1,479,895 |
*costs based on actual and estimated costs
The Department of Finance does not have responsibility for expenditure on energy made by other departments and their arm’s length bodies.
