Answer

East Londonderry is incorporated within the Northern Locality of the Education Authority Youth Service (EAYS) Horizons Programme.

Horizons is a 2 year developmental leadership programme designed to help address underachievement in 21 areas across the province based on the EAYS Assessment of Relative Needs. The programme will target young people aged 15 and over. The Northern Locality of the EAYS Horizons Programme is being funded as part of Key Area 5 of the Fair Start Action Plan.

The Youth Service has 2 key members of staff who cover specifically the East Londonderry area which includes direct delivery of the Horizons Programme in Coleraine.

Investment in terms of monetary resources to date include £18k in staffing costs and £9k in programme costs.

A significant element of the Fair Start Action Plan will see the development of a Reducing Educational Disadvantage (RED) programme. Budget permitting, going forward, the RED programme will support communities and schools working in partnership together to support children’s education and learning.
