Answer
Policy responsibility for Youth Services rests with the Department for Education. However, my Department currently funds a number of youth initiatives in East Derry. I have provided an update as below on youth services.
The Coleraine Education Community Project (CECP) is a schools based project that has been successfully operating across Coleraine for over ten years, which links nine schools that work within or have significant numbers of pupils from the two Neighbourhood Renewal Areas (NRAs) of Coleraine East (Ballysally and Millburn) and Coleraine West (The Heights and Killowen). This initiative was allocated £ 45,053.16 in the current financial year.
The second project is the Ballysally Integrated Nurturing Project (BINP) which provides an effective nurturing service for families and individuals of all ages, with a cradle to grave approach of supportive developmental work. This project was allocated £159,613.28 in the current financial year.
The Dry Arch Children’s Centre – Enjoying, Learning and Achieving in Limavady provides a Youth Mentor/Family Support Worker for 25 hours per week to target children, families and young people at critical stages in their lives, so that support and interventions are available to those in danger of becoming involved in antisocial behaviour or are marginalised thus effecting their educational attainment.
Additionally in 2021/22 the Neighbourhood Renewal programme, awarded funding of £17,880 to Roe Valley Residents Association in Limavady to externally revamp the newly opened Youth Hub in the town centre.
As I explained earlier the provision of funding to youth services has a wider remit than my Department, but overall information pertaining to funding awarded can be accessed on the Government Funders Database which is accessible via the link below:
