Answer
There are currently four School Enhancement Programme (SEP) projects, one Fresh Start project and one Major Capital project advancing in design and planning in the East Londonderry constituency.
Sandelford School was announced in May 2018 under SEP. The proposed project involves a new build extension to provide general and specialist classrooms, with associated ancillary spaces. The project is currently at RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design).
Coleraine Grammar School was announced in May 2018 under SEP. The project will bring the school on to one site at Castlerock Road. It involves the construction of a new part single, part two-storey extension for specialist classrooms, reconfiguration and refurbishment of existing accommodation and car parking and bus drop off and collection. Construction of the project started in June 2023 and the estimated completion date is Summer 2024.
Dominican College, Portstewart was announced in January 2019 under SEP. The proposed project involves demolition of existing accommodation and a new build extension. The project is currently at RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design).
St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s College, Claudy was announced in January 2019 under SEP. The proposed project involves the construction of a new standalone sports block to include: sports hall, PE Classroom, fitness suite and drama suite; extension and refurbishment of existing accommodation; and a 3G synthetic pitch. The project is currently at RIBA Stage 3 (Developed Design).
Mill Strand Integrated Primary School was announced as a major capital project under the Fresh Start Programme in March 2016. Works on site commenced February 2023 and the school is currently expected to handover Mid-May 2024.
Loretto College, Coleraine was one of twenty-eight major capital projects announced in March 2022. Unfortunately, all projects announced in 2022 have been paused due to the current budget position. The decision to pause these projects was taken in April 2023 and all schools impacted by the decision were notified by letter dated 25 April 2023.
There are also a number of smaller scale minor works projects being taken forward in the area.
