AQW 13273/22-27 Written question to the Minister for Infrastructure

To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any plans he has to update the 2019 traffic study of the road network surrounding the Riverside Retail Park, Coleraine, with a view to (i) assessing the impact of more recent changes to traffic flow in and out of the retail park; and (ii) being better placed to analysing the need for traffic lights at the Strand Road roundabout.

Answer

The 2019 traffic study recorded the maximum delay experienced at the Strand Road Roundabout to be 5 minutes on the Castleroe Road with the majority of the other approaches experiencing delays of less than a minute. These finding are not considered to be excessive, nor unique, as most strategic traffic routes experience some congestion at peak times, particularly where the main road, which carries larger volumes of traffic, has priority over the lower trafficked minor roads. My officials consider that there has been no significant increase to these delays and have no immediate plans to undertake a new traffic study. However, the area will continue to be monitored.
