Answer

The management of public wastewater infrastructure is an operational matter for NI Water. However, I have sought the requested information from NI Water and have been advised as follows:

NI Water can often work with developers to try to identify a ‘no detriment’ solution, to achieve a connection. NI Water has advised that there are currently 68 such areas across the North. These areas are listed below:-

Monteith, Moneyslane, Desertmartin, Carrowclare, Killymuck, Redford, Douglas Bridge, Robinsonstown, The Loup, Florencecourt, Glasdrumman (Annalong), Cabragh, Blackwatertown, Dunmore, Teemore, Maghera (Down), Mosside (Ballymoney), Clogh, Clarehill, Lurganare, Eglish (Dungannon), Darkley, Drumquin, Stranocum, Martinstown, Edenderry (Belfast), Lough Macrory South, Mullaghboy (Islandmagee), Garrison South, Killeen (Dungannon), Dervock, Gortin, Ravernet, Poyntzpass, Armoy Bush, Augher Blackwater, Killygonlan, Clady (Tyrone), Lawrencetown, Ederney, Castle Archdale Integrated Constructed Wetlands, Tamnamore, Mountnorris, Clough East, Meigh, Clogher, Newtownbutler, Cloughey, Beragh, Aughnacloy, Drumbeg, Bellaghy, Belleek (Fermanagh), Killinchy, Hilltown, Glenavy, Markethill, Fivemiletown, Drumaness, Moneymore, Moy, Irvinestown, Rathfriland Drumlough, Waringstown, Greenisland, Larne, Dungannon and Cranfield.

In addition, NI Water has also advised that there are 32 sub-catchments across 23 towns and villages where it is no longer able to provide a solution to developers to facilitate a new connection, given capacity issues in the sewerage network. These are listed below:

Templepatrick, Greenisland, Portadown, Belfast, Enniskillen, Carryduff, Ballymena, Dungannon, Cookstown, Downpatrick, Saintfield, Donaghadee, Dundonald, Newry, Newtownabbey, Maghera, Newtownards, Comber, Killyleagh, Kilkeel, Daraghcross, Seahill and Larne.

For any future queries relating to operational matters, you should contact NI Water directly, through the Elected Representatives Hotline on 0345 300 6461 or through waterline@niwater.com

Making direct contact with NI Water will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make best use of limited public resources.
