Answer
The Department of Health produces statistics on the use of operating theatres in Health and Social Care Trust (HSCT) hospitals in Northern Ireland, each year, broken down by Hospital and type of case. This data can be found at the link: Statistics on Theatre Utilisation by Hospital, HSC Trust and Classification 2023/24. This data goes back beyond the last five years.
Type of cases are broken down as per the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) classifications. The figures do not include obstetric delivery rooms containing a delivery bed, dental treatment rooms (or surgeries containing a dental chair), X-ray rooms, or rooms used only for endoscopies.
