Answer
All HSC Trusts provide care for endometriosis, as women referred will be under the care of a consultant gynaecologist. The service model for endometriosis further recognises the impact of this condition on the health and well-being of women. The basis of the model is holistic management for the needs of women undergoing diagnosis and treatment by delivering care through a specialist multidisciplinary team best able to provide responsive, appropriate care throughout the patient journey. Each member of the team is functioning as a specialist from within their discipline whether as a consultant, nurse, or other professional lead in delivering care.
Belfast Trust have two consultants who have a special interest in endometriosis.
In the Southern Health and Social Care Trust there are no consultants with specialist training in advanced endometriosis treatment.
South Eastern Trust has 4 gynaecologists with specialist training in endometriosis treatment and access to a consultant surgeon with a special interest who often performs joint cases with gynaecologists.
Northern Trust do not have any consultant gynaecologists who have specialist training in advanced endometriosis treatment.
The Western Trust currently has two Consultants with specialist training in endometriosis.
