Answer
The Housing Supply Strategy sets out the need to prevent homelessness. It recognises the inextricable link between housing, health and social care and support system and the necessity of a continuum of support from temporary to permanent accommodation. Actions aligned to the objectives of the Strategy will be developed throughout its lifetime, taking into account actions also being delivered through the Homelessness Strategy for NI.
One action already being taken forward by my Department to support those moving from temporary accommodation into permanent housing, is the development of the Loan to Acquire Move-on Accommodation (LAMA).
The Fund, which was launched in December 2024, is a £10m fund running for five years and is available to Homelessness charities in Northern Ireland looking to provide well managed, long term, private rented sector accommodation at an affordable rate.
The aim over the five years of the Project is to provide 80-100 units of accommodation as a route into housing for those who cannot access permanent social housing or private rented accommodation, supporting the Homelessness Strategy for Northern Ireland.
