Answer
My Department, alongside Tourism NI and the three Belfast Business Improvement Districts, has commissioned Ipsos to conduct research to better understand the issues affecting the night-time economy.
While the final report is anticipated soon, the interim findings suggested that in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area the night-time economy made a significant contribution in terms of Gross Value Added and supporting jobs.
The interim findings also found that Tourism's potential within the night-time economy is significant but underutilised. Promoting unique night-time experiences and addressing access and safety issues could attract more visitors who stay longer and spend more.
A safe, thriving and diverse night-time economy will contribute to footfall and business viability across our urban areas. I remain committed to engaging with stakeholders to achieve this ambition.
