Answer
The legislation being developed provides for all young people to continue their education or training for two years following compulsory school age. This can be achieved through education or training in school, FE College, CAFRE or home education; or education in parallel with working or volunteering.
The proposed legislation will strengthen the system’s ability to monitor participation and intervene early when a young person disengages.
Given the purpose and scope of the Bill, it would not be appropriate to add substantive provisions relating to elective home education at this time.
