Answer
I recognise the distinct challenges posed by crime in rural communities. While there is currently no standalone rural crime strategy, my officials continue to engage with a range of partners on issues relating to rural crime, including via the Rural Crime Partnership (RCP), the Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSPs) and the Joint Agency Task Force (JATF).
Outside organisations, including the National Rural Crime Unit, are regularly invited to present at RCP meetings to share information and best practices with stakeholders.
Whilst I do not have any immediate plans to introduce a rural crime strategy I
have asked my officials to raise this issue at the next RCP meeting to consider the existing position and, if necessary, identify measures which would strengthen protections in this area.
