Answer

I am keen to hear all views on how best to finalise the proposals for the Nutrients Action Programme (NAP) 2026–2029.

It is essential that we work together to move forward with improving water quality. I welcome constructive input from stakeholders, so that I can consider how we can collaboratively reverse the decline in water quality.

I would encourage anyone with an interest in the NAP to provide their feedback through the consultation process. If they have any alternative suggestions to the proposed measures, these can be submitted along with supporting evidence.

One of the proposals included within the consultation is for a pilot focused approach, in specific high-risk areas with focused measures. The consultation responses on this proposal will help inform how this focused approach is taken forward.

As I stated in the Assembly on 10 June the NAP proposals are just that, no final decisions have been made. The consultation process and further stakeholder engagement will feed into any final decisions on the NAP for 2026-2029.

I am listening to the genuine concerns and my officials and I will continue to engage with stakeholders during the consultation period.
