Answer

All TV advertisements go through the Broadcast Clearance process with Clearcast. During this process, Clearcast provides instructions as to the time of day an advertisement is permitted to be broadcast. Some TV advertisements receive instructions to be broadcast all day, some after 7.30pm, and the more graphic advertisements after 9pm, to take account audience age.

The Department always complies with these instructions. Advertisements online are targeted to adults only in the north of Ireland, unless the content is intended for a younger audience.

Cinema advertising receives age classifications, which again the department always complies with.

Road safety messages are relevant to all, including those families affected by road traffic collisions. However, if anyone finds a particular campaign traumatic because of their own personal circumstances if they contact my officials within the Road Safety Promotion team, we can make them aware of the TV schedule so that they can avoid the campaign.
